§ 17-17. Members.

  • (a)

    The city planning, zoning and historic preservation commission shall be composed of seven (7) citizens, who shall be residents of the city and who shall serve without compensation for terms of four (4) years each.

    (b)

    Three (3) members shall be individuals who, in the opinion of the mayor, have demonstrated outstanding interest and knowledge in historic or architectural preservation within the city.

    (c)

    Each member of the planning, zoning and historic preservation commission hereafter shall be appointed by the mayor, subject to the approval of the council.

    (d)

    In 1986, 1987 and 1988 one (1) of the available vacancies for appointment to the planning, zoning and historic preservation commission shall be designated for a member possessing the qualities as established in subsection (b) for historic preservation. Each time thereafter such vacancy becomes available for reappointment or replacement, the new member thereafter shall be designated as one (1) of the three (3) historic preservation members of this commission.

    (e)

    In the event of vacancy, a new member shall be appointed to fill such vacancy in the same manner of appointment and for the remainder of the term.

    (f)

    In addition to the seven (7) citizen members, the mayor, a member of the council selected by the council and the city administrator shall be nonvoting members of the commission.
