§ 6-261. Definitions.

  • [The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this division, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:]

    Copy means the wording or design on a sign's face, in either permanent or removable material, which is designed to communicate a message.

    Election, campaign or political sign means a temporary sign advocating or opposing any political proposition, issue or candidate for public office.

    Face of sign means the area of a sign on which the copy is placed.

    Frontage means the length of the property line along a public right-of-way on which it borders.

    Government signs means any temporary or permanent sign erected and maintained by the city, county, state or federal government.

    Portable sign means any sign having a framework with or without wheels which is moveable from one (1) outdoor location to another.

    Sign means any medium, including its structure and component parts, which is used or intended or intended to be used to attract attention to the copy.

    Temporary sign means any sign constructed of cloth, canvas, light fabric, cardboard, paper, wallboard or other light material, with or without frames, intended to be displayed for a period of less than one hundred twenty (120) days. This definition is designed to include all election, campaign or political signs.
