§ 6-68. Licensing of contractors.

  • (a)

    No person shall work or engage in business as an electrical contractor in the city without an electrical contractor's license issued by the city. Such a license shall be issued only to a qualified person.

    (b)

    In this section "qualified person" means:

    (1)

    An individual who holds a valid journeyman electrician's certificate issued by the city; or

    (2)

    A person who employs an individual who holds a valid journeyman electrician's certificate issued by the city.

    (c)

    An electrical contractor's license shall be suspended if its holder ceased to be a qualified person. The license shall be reinstated upon its holder again becoming a qualified person.

    (d)

    Before any person is granted a license under this division, such person shall file a certificate of insurance with the city certifying public liability insurance in an amount as provided by the Missouri State Statutes; and such person shall also be required to file a certificate of insurance for workers' compensation coverage or an affidavit, the form of which shall be developed by the Division of Labor and Industrial Relations for the State of Missouri, signed by the applicant attesting that the contractor is exempt from such requirement and no business license shall be issued to any electrical contractor applicant failing to provide such certificate of insurance or affidavit.

    (e)

    A fee of one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) shall be paid to the city prior to the original issuance of a contractor's license. A fee of one hundred dollars ($100.00) shall be paid to the city upon the renewal of the license.

    (f)

    Electrical contractor's licenses expire at the end of the calendar year for which they are issued.

    (g)

    Notwithstanding subsection (b), a nonresident electrical contractor may be issued a temporary license if he or one (1) of his employees holds a valid journeyman electrician's license issued by another municipality. Notwithstanding subsection (f), is valid until the job on which the contractor is working is completed. No portion of the annual license fee shall be refunded upon expiration of the license.
