§ 6-51. Permit required; persons eligible.

  • (a)

    A person shall obtain an electrical permit from the electrical inspector or his agent before making any change or alteration in any electrical wiring or fixtures or installing any electrical wiring or fixtures.

    (b)

    No permit is required for the replacement of lamps or the connection of portable appliances to suitable receptacles which have been permanently installed, or for the replacement of overcurrent protective devices, excluding breakers, which have become defective or inoperative.

    (c)

    In case of emergency arising when the plant office is not open, a licensed electrical contractor may proceed with necessary repairs or replacement in order to restore service without first securing a permit; provided that a permit is applied for a written statement of the facts constituting the emergency is submitted within the next business day after work is commenced.

    (d)

    Except as provided in section 6-57, no electrical permit shall be issued to any person other than an electrical contractor who holds a valid license issued in accordance with the provisions of this article.
