§ 6-33. Electrical inspector.

  • (a)

    The director of public works of the City of Carthage is ex officio electrical inspector.

    (b)

    The electrical inspector shall regulate and determine the placing of electrical light and power wires in and on buildings in the city in such manner as to prevent fires, accidents or injury to persons or property, and to cause all major electrical appliances to be so placed, constructed and guarded, as not to cause fires or accidents, or endanger persons or property. Whenever in the judgment of the electrical inspector any electric wire or appliance shall be defective by reason of improper or insufficient insulation, or for any other cause, the inspector shall cause the immediate removal of the defect.

    (c)

    The electrical inspector, or other competent persons designated by him as his agent, shall have the right and power to enter, at any reasonable time, any premises in the discharge of his official duties, or for the purpose of making tests for electrical apparatus or appliances therein contained. For that purpose, he shall be given prompt access to all premises on application to the person owning or having charge or control of same.

    (d)

    The electrical inspector or his agent may cause the removal of electrical wires or turn off current to wires if the wires or circuits to which the wires are connected interfere with the work of the fire department.
