§ 4-2. Impoundment.

  • (a)

    Unrestrained dogs, nuisance animals and all animals or fowl, excluding domestic cats, found at large shall be taken by the enforcement officer and impounded in an animal shelter and there confined in a humane manner.

    (b)

    Any feral cat impounded by animal control that bears an appropriate ear-tipping indicating it belongs to a managed colony may be, at the discretion of the animal control officer, returned to the colony unless the animal is a known nuisance or shows visible signs of illness or injury and presents an imminent danger to public health or safety.

    (c)

    If by a license tag or other means, the owner of an impounded animal can be identified, the enforcement officer shall immediately upon impoundment notify the owner by telephone or mail.

    (d)

    An owner reclaiming an impounded animal shall pay a fee determined by the operators of the animal shelter in order to defray the expense of the impoundment.

    (e)

    The owner of an impounded animal may also be prosecuted for a violation of this chapter.
