§ 2-317. Membership.

  • (a)

    Each member of the board of public works, before entering upon the duties of his office, shall take and subscribe the same oath or affirmation as is required by law to be taken and subscribed by the elective officers of the city, which oath or affirmation shall be filed with the city clerk. Each member of the board of public works shall furnish to the city and shall at all times hereinafter maintain a bond given to the city in the penal sum of two thousand dollars ($2,000.00). The bond shall be paid for by the water and electric department. The bond shall be approved by the mayor and conditioned on the faithful performance of duties as members of the board and upon paying over all monies belonging to the city coming into their hands as provided by law. The bond shall be filed in the office of the city clerk.

    (b)

    Each member of the board of public works shall receive from the city, as full compensation of his services, a salary of one hundred dollars ($100.00) per annum, payable monthly, from the revenues derived from the operation of the water and electric plant.

    (c)

    In addition to the six (6) voting members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council, the mayor may appoint a city council member who shall be a nonvoting member of the board, with the approval of the council, and will receive no compensation for such service.
