§ 2-60. Functions of public works committee.

  • It shall be the duty of the committee to have general oversight of the streets, alleys and public ways of the city, including all street improvements, street repair, construction of bridges and culverts, establishing all public ways, alteration or vacation of streets or other public ways, or parts of the same, and, generally, to observe and report any dangerous condition on any of the streets or public ways of the city, that might be, or become detrimental to persons using the same. The committee shall recommend improvements of public streets, alleys and public ways and designate the manner and places for necessary repairs thereon, and perform such duties pertaining to the public streets or public works of the city, as may be referred to it by the council. In this connection it shall be deemed the duty of the street commissioner to work under the supervision of the committee on streets and alleys, and it shall be the duty of this committee to investigate and recommend to the council a suitable and proper person for street commissioner. It shall be the duty of the committee to have general oversight over public health related matters involving the city government and city ordinances, and further to perform such duties pertaining to public health matters as may be referred to it by the mayor and city council.
