§ 17-81. Assignment of numbers.

  • (a)

    In assigning numbers for buildings, a number shall be allowed for approximately each twelve and one-half (12½) feet on each side of the street in all portions of streets within the business district. A variation of five (5) feet or less, may be made, in either direction, from this basis, where it is necessary in adjusting the system to lots of irregular width, or where sides of lots abut upon a street; provided that it shall be proper to assign one (1) number to any single lot having a frontage of less than twenty-five (25) feet but no less than ten (10) feet.

    (b)

    It shall be the duty of the city engineer to assign the number designated by the city plat book of house numbers to any building in the city, upon application for such number by the owner or occupant of any building, or his agent or representative.
