§ 14-15. Recoupment of funds for alcohol/drug related traffic offenses.

  • Upon a plea of guilty or a finding of guilt or conviction for the violation of the provisions of any alcohol or drug related traffic offense, the court may order the defendant to reimburse law enforcement authorities for the costs associated with such arrest. Such costs shall include the reasonable costs of making the arrest, including the cost of any chemical tests made to determine the alcohol or drug content of the defendant's blood and the costs of processing, charging, booking and holding such person in custody. A schedule of such costs shall be established by the Police Department of the City of Carthage and shall be filed with the clerk of the municipal court, and the court may impose costs in accordance with such schedule. The court may order the costs reduced in any case in which the court determines that the costs are excessive. Such fees shall be calculated as additional costs by the municipal court and shall be collected by the court in the same manner as other costs and fees, and shall be remitted to the city clerk.
